Scott Weiland Headed to Jail

Posted in Gossip, Music with tags , , , , , , , , , , on May 8, 2008 by rockligion

Last year in November, Stone Temple Pilots vocalist Scott Weiland was arrested for a traffic collision resulting from him being drunk at time (because apparently these jackasses aren’t rick enough to get DRIVERS). He has recently been sentenced on those charges to serve 8 days in a Los Angeles jail. He has until May 28 to complete the sentence, although the Stone Temple Pilots reunion tour, which is set to kick off in Columbus, Ohio on May 17 will force him to do so earlier.

“Give Peace A Chance” Lyrics to be Auctioned

Posted in Gossip, History, Music with tags , , , , , , , , , , on May 8, 2008 by rockligion

The lyrics to “Give Peace A Chance”, which John Lennon wrote during the famous 1969 Bed-In at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, are set to be auctioned off sometime this summer. “Give Peace A Chance” was written and recorded in the hotel room with about 50 other people. After writing the lyrics, Lennon apparently gave them to Gail Renard, a then-16-year-old in the room who is now selling them. The lyrics will be available for viewing at Christie’s in NY until the auction.

Jimi Hendrix Sex Tape

Posted in Gossip, History, Music with tags , , , , , , , on May 8, 2008 by rockligion

Earlier today, Vivid Video, an adult video producer, release “Jimi Hendrix: The Sex Tape”, a tape of Hendrix (or someone who looks a hell of a lot like him) with two women made in 1968. The company has come under fire by many who claim that the tape is a fake, and they have offered a $100,000 reward to anyone who can prove that it is not in fact the guitar god that is shown in the video. The tape was supposedly shot and then processed in Germany and kept under wraps due to the effects its release could have caused, especially due to the fact that it depicts bi-racial sex. While Hendrix’s former girlfriend Kathy Etchingham insists that it is not Jimi in the video, Hendrix’s former road manager Neville Chesters says that he is “positive” that the tape is real. Cynthia Albritton who once made a plaster cast of Hendrix’s penis also is certain of the tape’s authenticity.

Check This Shit: Volcanoes

Posted in Music with tags , , , , , , , , on May 7, 2008 by rockligion

Volcanoes are a four man band from Leeds that formed in 2004. They combine a mix of Rock, Blues, and Indie music that sounds better than half of what you’re listening to on alternative radio. It’s exciting, energetic, and innovative, and most importantly, they don’t sound like another great band with great songs who have been cursed with shitty recording equipment that does them no justice. Check them out at: http://www.myspace.com/volcanoes

Metallica Becomes Less Douchy Towards Downloading

Posted in Gossip, Industry, Music with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 7, 2008 by rockligion

It was less than 10 years ago when Metallica went bat shit insane over Napster fans downloading their music illegally. In an apparent change of heart over the evils of the internet and downloading, drummer Lars Ulrich announced about a week ago during a store signing that the band is considering a Radiohead-style release for their next album. Radiohead released their last album “In Rainbows” online allowing fans to pay whatever price they wanted. Ulrich pointed out that the band already allows legal downloads of live songs on their website and that they are considering the possibilities of how best to release their next album.

Paul McCartney Pulls a Prince

Posted in Industry, Music with tags , , , , , , , on May 7, 2008 by rockligion

Not too long ago, Prince announced that he was distributing his latest album via UK newspapers, and it appears that Paul McCartney thinks this is a great idea. Since releasing his last album, “Memory Almost Full” several months ago, McCartney has only seen about 100,000 copies moved. To get those numbers up to almost 2 million or more, McCartney has just announced that he will be distributing it through the UK’s Daily Mail. As mentioned in one of our previous articles, several artists have been criticized for giving their music away by people who say that it cheapens music and makes people think that it isn’t worth anything. Unfortunately for these people, regular customers don’t really seem all that interested in purchasing music in regular ways anymore and giving music away is about as cheap for the labels and artists as it is to promote it.

Archiving The Dead

Posted in History, Music with tags , , , , , , , , on May 7, 2008 by rockligion

The Grateful Dead announced about a week ago that they were donating a huge collection of papers, posters, props, photos, press clippings, backstage passes, set lists, and random other items to the University of California at Santa Cruz. Why you ask? To create a massive collection of Dead memorbilia called the Dead Central to keep it from being lost or destroyed. Apparently a huge portion of the work was created by fans and sent to the Grateful Dead over the years. The collection covers over 2,000 square feet and will be open to the public in the university library.
